Lotus Physical Therapy stands as a testament to my enduring commitment to well-being and healing. As the Director and founder, I am Luba Starostiak, a dedicated physical therapist with a journey that spans over three decades. My story began with a deep passion for dance and movement, intertwined with a profound appreciation for the wonders of science. It was the realization that physical therapy was the perfect convergence of my passions that set me on this path of healing and transformation.
After graduating with high honors and a major in Physical Therapy from Hunter College School of Health Sciences in 1991, I embarked on a career that has been marked by continuous growth and unwavering dedication. My pursuit of excellence led me to achieve an Orthopedic Specialist Certification through the American Physical Therapy Association, shaping my expertise from 2000 to 2020.
My professional journey has been enriched by working in prestigious New York teaching hospitals, including the Hospital for Joint Diseases, Hospital for Special Surgery, and Helen Hayes Hospital. These invaluable experiences allowed me to work with a diverse range of individuals, from professional dancers and gymnasts to musicians and the general population with Orthopedic and Women's Health-related conditions.
While my journey initially began in Orthopedic Manual Therapy, my curiosity and passion led me to specialize in Pelvic Physical Therapy and Women's Health. This unique focus emerged around a decade into my career when I recognized the need to address injuries and conditions specific to women. As a woman myself, I have an intimate understanding of the intricate changes our bodies go through across life stages and cycles. This understanding ignited a fervent calling within me – to offer unwavering support and guidance to other women as they navigate their healing journeys.
The seed for Lotus Physical Therapy for Women, PLLC was planted from this passionate drive to empower women's wellness. With a strong foundation in Orthopedics and Women's Health, I also hold certifications as a yoga instructor through Yoga Mountain Wellness Center in New York and a women's fitness specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I am constantly driven to expand my knowledge and skills in order to continue providing expert care to my patients/clients.
My personal experiences as a former dancer and dedicated yoga practitioner infuse a deeper understanding of the body and movement into my practice. This unique perspective has been complemented by contributions to written articles and texts in the area of Women's Health and wellness. I have appeared as a guest speaker on various topics in Women's Health Physical Therapy on multiple radio talk shows. I've also had the privilege of serving as an adjunct professor, educating future physical therapists in Women's Health Sciences at the Physical Therapy Doctoral program at Dominican College in Rockland County, New York I am a proud member of esteemed associations including the American Physical Therapy Association (Orthopedic and Women's Health sections), the National Vulvodynia Association, the International Pelvic Pain Society, the Interstitial Cystitis Network, and the Society for Women's Health Research.
